Thanks Barry.

Brad Goodman is sending me a piece of .08 ziricote, so the piece of wood
will be a lot better than I thought it would be. Hey, if I mess it up, I can
always flip it over!

James,

I've come up with a different, yet still tough, approach.
Assuming it's going in a veneer, use a jewelers saw to cut through the veneer in areas such as the outer lines, specifically where the lines do not cross. (You would be at the mercy of the blade size when working with wire). A combination of saw and router may work well.

On some intricate inlays, I've used the saw as far as possible, inlaid wire, sanded, and then started with the saw again. It's tedious work, but generally comes out quite well with a fair amount of patience.

Also, I agree with Craig on the material selection; dust will work, but not stand out near as much.

Keep an open mind. You may come up with something new!

Good luck
